Determiners वे शब्द होते हैं जो किसी Noun के पहले आकर यह निर्धारित करते हैं कि Noun किस प्रकार का है — निश्चित या अनिश्चित, एकवचन या बहुवचन, तथा किसकी ओर संकेत कर रहा है। Determiners में Articles (a, an, the), Demonstratives (this, that, these, those), Possessives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their), Quantifiers (some, any, many, much, few, little) और Numbers (one, two, first, second) शामिल हैं। Class 10 की परीक्षा में Determiners पर Gap Filling और Error Correction के प्रश्न नियमित रूप से पूछे जाते हैं।
Determiners का प्रयोग हमेशा Noun से ठीक पहले होता है, जैसे a book, this pen, my bag, some water। इन्हें आपस में एक साथ नहीं लगाया जा सकता — my this book गलत है, सही है this book of mine।
Some/Any, Much/Many, Few/A Little जैसी तुलनाओं का विस्तार से अध्ययन करेंगे।
Articles तीन प्रकार के होते हैं — a, an और the।
I saw a bird. The bird was singing.
Demonstratives व्यक्ति या वस्तु की दूरी और संख्या दर्शाते हैं। this (यह, निकट, एकवचन), that (वह, दूर, एकवचन), these (ये, निकट, बहुवचन), those (वे, दूर, बहुवचन)। This book is mine, that one is yours., These apples are fresh, those are not.
Possessive Determiners Noun से पहले आकर स्वामित्व दर्शाते हैं। इनका प्रयोग Noun के साथ ही होता है। My house is near the school., She lost her umbrella., They have done their work. Possessive Determiner के बाद हमेशा Noun आता है, जबकि Possessive Pronoun (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) Noun के बिना ही प्रयोग होते हैं।
Some का प्रयोग Positive Sentences में तथा Any का प्रयोग Negative और Interrogative Sentences में होता है। Some Countable Plural और Uncountable Noun दोनों के साथ आता है। I have some money., She bought some apples., Do you have any sugar?, I don't have any doubts. परंतु Some का प्रयोग प्रस्ताव (Offer) और अनुरोध (Request) वाले प्रश्नों में होता है, जैसे Would you like some tea?
Much का प्रयोग Uncountable Nouns के साथ तथा Many का प्रयोग Countable Plural Nouns के साथ होता है। ये प्रायः Negative और Interrogative वाक्यों में आते हैं। There isn't much milk left., How many students are present?, I don't have much time.
A Few का अर्थ है कुछ (Positive), Few का अर्थ है लगभग नहीं (Negative), The Few का अर्थ है जो भी कुछ हैं। ये तीनों Countable Plural के साथ प्रयोग होते हैं। इसी प्रकार A Little का अर्थ है थोड़ा (Positive), Little का अर्थ है लगभग नहीं (Negative), The Little का अर्थ है जो भी थोड़ा है — ये Uncountable के साथ। I have a few friends. (कुछ मित्र हैं), I have few friends. (मुश्किल से कोई मित्र), I have a little money. (थोड़ा पैसा है), I have little money. (लगभग पैसा नहीं)।
Each का प्रयोग दो या अधिक व्यक्तियों/वस्तुओं में से प्रत्येक के लिए अलग-अलग होता है, जबकि Every तीन या अधिक में से प्रत्येक के लिए समूह के रूप में होता है। Each student has a book., Every citizen must pay tax. दोनों के साथ Singular Noun और Singular Verb आती है।
Either का अर्थ है दोनों में से कोई एक, Neither का अर्थ है दोनों में से कोई नहीं। Either of the two roads leads to the station., Neither answer is correct. दोनों Singular हैं।
Distributive Determiners (each, every, either, neither) समूह के व्यक्तिगत सदस्यों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हैं। Numbers में Cardinal (one, two, three) और Ordinal (first, second, third) शामिल हैं। Cardinal बताते हैं कि कितने हैं, Ordinal बताते हैं कि किस क्रम में। He bought three books., This is my first visit to Jaipur.

Determiners English में Noun के अर्थ को निर्दिष्ट करने वाले शब्द हैं, जिनका सही प्रयोग वाक्य को सटीक बनाता है। Articles, Demonstratives, Possessives, Quantifiers और Numbers के नियमों को उनके प्रकार के अनुसार याद रखना सबसे प्रभावी रणनीति है। Countable और Uncountable का भेद, Positive और Negative वाक्यों का अंतर, तथा Few/Little और Much/Many की जोड़ियाँ परीक्षा के प्रश्नों का केंद्र हैं। इन नियमों का अभ्यास करने से Gap Filling और Error Correction में आसानी से पूर्ण अंक प्राप्त होते हैं, और यह अध्याय Article तथा Tenses जैसे अन्य प्रकरणों का भी आधार बनता है।
