To type text, we click inside a placeholder and start typing. We can also insert text boxes anywhere on a slide. After creating the slides, we can add a new slide, duplicate one, delete it, or move slides up and down in the slide pane to arrange them in the correct order.
Formatting a presentation means making it look clean and professional. We can change the font, size, colour and style of the text, just like in a word processor. Transitions are the visual effects that appear when one slide changes to the next. We can choose from effects such as fade, push, wipe and morph, and we can set the speed and timing of each transition. Transitions make the presentation smooth and interesting, but they should be used carefully so that they do not slow down the presentation or distract the audience.
Animations are the effects applied to individual objects on a slide, such as text, pictures or charts. For example, the points of a list can appear one by one with a click, which helps the audience focus on one point at a time. Animations can be entrance effects, emphasis effects or exit effects. Like transitions, animations should be kept simple and consistent. Too many fancy effects can make a presentation look unprofessional and can annoy the audience.
A good presentation is not only about the slides; it is also about how we deliver it. We can insert audio and video into a slide, such as a song or a short film clip, which makes the presentation more engaging. We should practise the slideshow using the Slide Show view and rehearse our timing so that we do not go over the allotted time. We can also add speaker notes, which are hints that only the presenter can see, below each slide.
When delivering, we should speak clearly, look at the audience and not read directly from the slides. The slides should contain only key points, and we should explain each point in our own words. We can use the mouse or keyboard to move to the next slide, and we can also draw on the screen during the show. A well-prepared presenter with a clear, simple presentation always leaves a better impression than one with many effects but no practice.
